The Porsche 911 has always been lauded as one of the all-time great performance road cars, and the Stuttgart marque has always been a leading light in motor racing, scoring more victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours than any other manufacturer.
It is no surprise then, that there are few cars more desirable than 911s built with the track in mind; perhaps no model more so than the GT3 RS. The GT3 badge was introduced to the Porsche range with the 996, the GT3 RS arriving late in the life of the first water-cooled 911 as a celebration of the car’s potential when stripped to the bare necessities.
The GT3 also forms the basis for Porsche’s Carrera Cup race cars, which race all over the world in national championships, and also join Formula One weekends as a part of the Porsche Supercup.
The popularity of the 996 GT3 RS was such that its successor came early in the run of the 997-model 911.
The 997 GT3 RS was launched in 2006, and would continue to be produced for five years. In that time, the car would gain a lot of power. The initial 3.6-litre flat-six motor was superseded by a 3.8 for the so-called ‘997.2’ update in 2010; the car we present here at Mission Prestige is an example of the 997.2 GT3 RS.
The 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated engine produces 444bhp, and wider arches and a more imposing stance than the regular GT3. It produces 170kg of downforce courtesy of its aerodynamic, double that of the 997 GT3. The car is considered to be one of the greatest driving experiences produced by any manufacturer this century, with an uncompromising driving experience and perfectly-weighted steering.
Our example has just 1,433 miles on the clock, making it one of the most pristine examples on the market. An expert inspection by renowned RS expert Neil Bainbridge has shown that the car is still factory fresh in all regards; the engine has not been above rev range 1 at any point in its life. It comes with the Clubsport package and carbon bucket seats. The car will also be supplied with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Whether you are a trackday regular, or a driver looking for an engaging supercar for roadd use, the 997.2 GT3 RS has to be right at the top of your shopping list. In this superb of a condition, our car also makes a great addition to any collection.
